Christmas and the Cross
Another blessed worship experience during our monthly First Sunday Communion Service at the DRDC men’s prison facility! We sang “I Will Trust In The Lord” and our voices rang throughout our worship space into other spaces in the building! As we approach Christmas Day, it is important for us to keep Christ at the center of Christmas. Most know that Christmas is a day Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. However, many overlook the fact that Jesus’ birth happened so that Calvary could happen. In other words, Jesus was born to die on the cross at Calvary for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus was born to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).
God allowed me to encourage the brothers through Paul’s letter to the saints in Corinth (1 Corinthians 2:2). The city of Corinth was characterized by a culture of unbridled sin, Greek philosophers, false teachers, and pagan worship. Knowing this, Paul affirmed that while he was among them he made up his mind to know and teach very little about the popular culture. Instead he focused on preaching and teaching them about the Cross - Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
In this Christmas season, I encouraged the men to remember that Jesus’ birth happened so that His death for the forgiveness of our sins could happen. And this wonderful act of love manifested by His crucifixion is, and always shall be, the very heart of the gospel message and the basis four Christian joy!
To be sure, God has given us the greatest gift imaginable - Jesus!
Merry Christmas!
To God be the glory!
